Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitar player and music artist. She was the first person within her age bracket to be awarded an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Sitar Shankar was one of the Indian young sitar star. She is a student and daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London in 1982, and spent her early years shuttling from London as well as New Delhi. In the age of thirteen she staged her first show in New Delhi. In 1999, she completed her high school education at Encinitas CA. The career of Anouskha as a performer and recorder is quite impressive, in spite of her age. She performs regularly alongside her father and has been doing so for many years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. The Grammy Award-winning album Live at Carnegie Hall was released two years after her debut solo album. She's performed in all famous venues throughout the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not just limited to music. She released Bapi the Heart of My Life, in 2002. It is a biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. She also acted on the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. She played an Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance on her path and there will be many other things to be expected from this talented lady. Anoushka spent a lot of traveling between London and Delhi throughout her childhood. Then, she relocated to California to finish high school. Anoushka started her music studies at the age of nine. A few years later, she made her appearance on the sitar in Delhi during her father's 75th birthday party. The father of Anoushka travelled the globe with her, and she was able to gain many new experience. As she was in her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall during Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concert. To honor her position as one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was presented with the House of Commons Shield by British Parliament.
